31 July – 10 August
Following unforgettable performances of Billy Budd last summer, Ryan Wigglesworth returns to conduct Berlioz’s thrilling opera La Damnation de Faust, starring tenor Peter Hoare and baritone Alan Opie. The opening concert sees Debussy’s ravishing Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, Charles Owen plays Ravel’s piano concerto in G major and Aidan Oliver conducts Elgar’s Music Makers, with mezzo soprano Susan Bickley. Our Truro Cathedral programme includes Elgar’s cello concerto, with cellist Timothy Gill and Mozart’s Requiem. Other works featured in the festival include Mahler’s Symphony No 4, Bruckner’s Adagio from his string quintet (arr. string orchestra), Tchaikovsky’s piano trio, Brahms’ clarinet quintet and a late night Broadway extravagana with the Festival Chorus and the “Endellion Little BigBand”.
